Q2: What is the purpose of the LGBTQ History Student Filmmakers Competition?

A2: The purpose of the LGBTQ History Student Filmmakers Competition is to expand understanding and awareness of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ) contributions to society and to facilitate a California FAIR Education Act inspired initiative that rewards quality stories of LGBTQ luminaries and landmarks. Q3: Who is eligible to participate?

A3: There are two divisions including Middle school and high school students (grades 6-12) and college and university students (currently enrolled and in good standing)

Q4: How much does it cost to participate?

A4: There is no cost to submit a film.

Q5: What is the deadline to submit films?

A5: The deadline to submit is March 31, 2018

Q6: How many students can be on a team?

A6: Students may submit a film on behalf of a team, or as a solo person. There is no limit to the number of students on a team. However, typically, a team consists of 2-4 students.

Q7: Are teams required to have an adult sponsor?

A7: Middle school and high school student teams are required to have an adult sponsor. Whereas college students (18 years of age or over) are not required to have an adult sponsor and may submit on their own behalf.

Q8: Who qualifies as an adult sponsor?

A8: An adult sponsor can be a teacher, parent, or community volunteer (aged 21 or older).

Q9: What is the role of the adult sponsor?

A9: The adult sponsor acts as a coach and facilitator for the team, monitors the student work and ensures that rules are followed.

Q10: Can an adult sponsor work with more than one student team?

A10: Yes. Adult sponsors can work with multiple student teams.

Q11: Can a team submit more than one film?

A11: Teams are encouraged to submit a single entry. However, additional entries will be allowed if they are submitted by different student leaders and the entry portrays a unique subject or topic.

Q12: What is the minimum and maximum length the film can be?

A12: Minimum length is 90 seconds; Maximum length is 5 minutes.
