Student Group Tours

Note: Student Group Tours are currently on hold due to Covid-19. Join THE LAVENDER EFFECT’s LGBTQ+ History Walking Tours for Students and Educators.  Choose from our current and future offerings including “GAY DTLA” (Downtown Los Angeles) and “LGBTinsel Town” (Hollywood). Students of all ages will discover how the City of Angels gave birth to rich, vibrant and little-known LGBTQ+ and allied cultural heritage.  Explore with us as we reveal how LA has frequently been the first and most impactful city in the fight for equality! We offer the following student and educator group packages for groups of 10-20 people:

$300 (10-15 people) or $400 (16-20 people)

$500 (10-15 people) or $600 (16-20 people)

How much walking is involved and what is the pace?

Our tours cover a few miles in a 2.5-hour period. We will walk mostly on flat and level sidewalks, with slight hills and some stairs. We walk at a leisurely pace and stop frequently to discuss interesting points along the way. We do recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes.

What about inclement weather?

Tours will run rain or shine. Remember to check the weather forecast and dress appropriately for the day’s weather. Also, don’t forget comfortable walking shoes.

Do we go inside any buildings?

Yes, we do visit the interiors of certain locations we see on the tour. You can always return to explore what catches your attention after the tour!

Are there bathrooms along the way?

Restrooms are available at the meeting location. There are also several restroom stops along the way if necessary, but we highly recommend using the restroom before the start of the tour.

Will food and beverages be served?

There will be light snacks and water included in the tour as well. You should definitely eat something before the start of the tour. Tours can be set up to include a delicious local lunch or at least a stop for a bag lunch!

Is the tour suitable for all students?

We have edited out any inappropriate material to cater to middle school ages and up.  We share the histories, biographies, and stories of some incredible, and often unknown, LGBTQ Pioneers to allow students to see into the dynamic and diverse past of our community.  Our tours are an interactive and entertaining version of what a student might find in an LGBTQ Studies class.

Are cameras allowed on the tour?

Yes, cameras are permitted and if there are photo restrictions in any of the places we visit, we’ll let you know.

Can we shop during the tour?

There will not be time during the tour to stop and shop, but there will be time after the tour to shop around.

Are the tours conducted in English only?

Yes, at the moment we can only offer tours in English, but you are welcome to arrange for an interpreter. Please note that if you are accompanied by an interpreter, they will need a full priced ticket.
